The Missouri Capitol has seemingly approved a new Congressional map that could give Republicans an extra seat.

Currently, the representation includes six Republicans and two Democrats.

With the proposed changes, this could shift to seven Republicans and one Democrat.

It’s now anticipated that the Senate will also approve it.

The Hill reported:

The Missouri Capitol endorsed a new Congressional District map aimed at securing more seats for Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives, forwarding the plan to the state Senate for approval.

The proposal garnered support in party-line votes, with counts ranging from 90 to 65, after Governor Mike Kehoe (R) requested a special session to establish a new map for the upcoming decade. If finalized, this redrawn map could shift the balance from six Republicans and two Democrats to seven Republicans and one Democrat.

Democratic members have criticized the map as a partisan power move, with Republicans yielding to the desires of the President. However, with a significant minority in both Congress chambers, they lack sufficient power to block the map’s progression.

The map is anticipated to gain approval in the state Senate and be signed into law by Kehoe before the 2026 midterm elections.

Donald Trump expressed his approval and commended the legislators for their support.

He urged the Missouri Senate to expedite its passage.

True Society stated:

Congratulations to Missouri’s outstanding Republican state legislators for their overwhelming support for the new, much fairer Congressional map. It was a great honor for me to win Missouri six times, including during the 2016, 2020, and 2024 primaries, achieving more votes than ever before in the state’s history! The Missouri Senator mentioned the map’s potential for a significant national Republican victory. I will examine it closely. Thank you, Missouri—let’s make America great again!
