On Friday, President Donald Trump announced that several prominent media outlets would be banned from the White House.
He specifically mentioned CNN, MSNow, and Politico as being banned due to their reporting, which he described as “FICTION and LIES.” Trump also suggested that more outlets could face similar actions in the future.
“I am proud to announce that, effective immediately, I am banning Fake News CNN, MSNOW (which recently rebranded from MSNBC due to low viewership and credibility!), and Politico (who received an outrageous $8 Million Dollars in taxpayer money from Crooked Joe Biden to keep their operation going — seems like corruption to me!), from the White House because of their continuous ‘fake news’ reporting!” Trump’s statement on Truth Social declared.
“Media outlets shouldn’t be allowed to perpetually write or report fiction and lies when covering the President, the Trump Administration, or the United States overall. More fake news outlets will follow,” he added. “Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

Interestingly, Trump had previously tried to restrict the Associated Press from attending specific White House events in February 2025, after the outlet refused to adopt the term “Gulf of America” instead of “Gulf of Mexico” in their coverage.
The Associated Press took legal action on First Amendment grounds, arguing that it faced retaliation for its editorial choices. In April 2025, a federal judge ruled that the AP should regain its access to the White House.
Trump later appealed this ruling, allowing the initial access restrictions to stay in effect while the legal battle continued.
