President-elect Donald Trump has slammed those praising the suspect in the murder of health care CEO Brian Thompson.
President Trump made the comments Monday morning while answering questions from reporters at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida. Asked to comment on the shooting, he offered criticism of supporters of alleged killer Luigi Mangione.
“I can't believe he could think that, but it seems like he has a certain desire.”
“I think this is a terrible thing. I think it's really terrible that some people seem to be praising him the way he did. It's unique to this gentleman who was killed,” Trump said. I'm glad to know that's not the case,” he said. “It's not a specific disease, it's just a general disease.”
This suspect is admired and admired not only by those who hate the health care system, but also by those who hate all CEOs of large corporations. Some politicians, including Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Democratic Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, have expressed sympathy for the killings.
“That was a terrible thing. It was cold-blooded. Just a cold-blooded, horrific murder. Why people like this guy is actually sick,” Trump continued.
“It's really, really bad. Especially the way it was done. Right behind me. It's very bad. Some people won't believe it. Maybe it's fake news. I don't believe it.” I don't know. , I can't believe I even think about such a thing, but it seems like he has a certain appetite,'' he added.
President Trump concluded that he “doesn't understand.”
Mr. Mangione was found at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on December 9, and was arrested by police on suspicion of Mr. Thompson's murder. Investigators said the suspect was in possession of a ghost gun and thousands of dollars in U.S. and foreign currency.
President Trump also addressed the controversy surrounding a mysterious drone over New Jersey and warned against Republican lawmakers blocking Cabinet nominations.
