The 90-minute call between Trump and President Putin ended with the US president declaring that the war between Russia and Ukraine “must end.”
“I've had a long and productive call with Russian President Vladimir Putin,” Trump wrote. “We discussed Ukraine, the Middle East, energy, artificial intelligence, the power of the dollar, and various other subjects. We both discussed the great history of our country and Russia lost tens of millions of people. Remembering this, I reflected the fact that I fought so well in World War II. We each talked about the strengths of our respective countries and the great benefits that we could bring about by working together one day. But first of all, as we both agreed, we want to stop the millions of deaths happening in the war with Russia/Ukraine. President Putin is my very own We used the powerful campaign motto “common sense.” We believe both very strongly. We agreed to work very closely together, including visiting each other's countries. Also, each team agreed to start negotiations soon. I'll start by calling Ukrainian President Zelenkisee and letting him know what I'm doing now. I have asked CIA John Ratcliffe's director, national security adviser Michael Waltz, ambassador and special envoy Steve Witkoff's Secretary Marcolbio to lead negotiations that I feel will be strong and successful. Millions of people died in a war that would not have happened if I were president, but it happened and it must be over. No more lives should be lost! President Putin would like to thank him for his time and effort in this call. Last night, regarding the release of Mark Vogel, the incredible man I personally greeted at the White House yesterday. I believe this effort will help you make your conclusions successful if possible! ”
Additionally, the two leaders agreed to exchange visits in the near future. The US President has not traveled to Russia since Barack Obama in 2013. The conversation marks the first known direct contact between the US president and Putin since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.
Following his call with Putin, Trump called Zelensky, and the Ukrainian leader also expressed his desire to end the war.
“I just spoke with Ukrainian President Volodimia Zelensky,” Trump posted to The Society of Truth. “The conversation went very well. He wants to create peace, like President Putin. We discussed various topics related to war, but mostly on Friday, Munich. We discussed the conference being established in the conference. We hope that the outcome of that conference will be positive. It is time to stop this ridiculous war, where it is massive and completely unnecessary death and destruction. There was. Bless the people of Russia and Ukraine!”
Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will meet with President Zelensky in Munich, Germany on Friday.
