Trump Critiques California Leadership on Reconstruction Efforts
President Donald Trump criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for their slow reconstruction pace following the January Pallisard and Eton Fires.
While debris clearing and hazardous waste removal were efficiently managed through federal assistance, the reconstruction process has dragged on. Delays stem from issues with insurance payment authorizations, leaving many residents unable to rebuild or even sell their properties due to inaction from state and city officials. Meanwhile, Newsom and Bass seem preoccupied with partisan goals, like immigration enforcement suspensions and repayment strategies.
Recently, only 300 permits were granted from an influx of nearly 900 applications, leaving many homeowners caught in limbo regarding their insurance payments or contemplating selling their lots and homes due to ongoing delays.
In a separate commentary, Trump responded to questions regarding police presence in Washington, D.C. during a White House press briefing. He remarked on his success in quelling recent riots in Los Angeles.

If officials hadn’t gone to Los Angeles to assist this ineffective governor and the mayor, the situation would have been far worse. Much of the area would have been lost. Hosting the Olympics seemed unfeasible without sending support there. The police commissioner expressed gratitude for the presence of troops during tense days, though he later implied they didn’t need that intervention. His remark felt scripted. In reality, without deploying our national guard, the situation could have escalated. Effective action seemed essential for Los Angeles to be in the running for the Olympics. Current property owners are still struggling to get the permissions needed to rebuild.
Amid this, Trump noted Newsom’s rally and press conference which occurred on November 4th, where he addressed a special election that favored Democratic redistricting efforts in California.
