Trump Critiques MSNBC’s Name Change
Early Thursday, former President Donald Trump took to social media to criticize MSNBC’s recent rebranding as “MS.” He referred to the network’s new identity as a “failure by any name,” and claimed it was attempting to escape its tarnished reputation.
In his post, Trump stated, “MSNBC has such a poor rating that it is trying to change its name to escape the foul smell of fake news products.” This came after the announcement earlier in the week that MSNBC would be renamed “My Source News Opinion World,” or simply, MS, amid its spinoff from Comcast.
Trump also directed his frustration at Comcast executives, particularly Brian Roberts, calling them “weak and ineffective.” He suggested their efforts to redefine the network would not alter its poor performance, adding, “MSNBC fails with every name!”
The new name faced backlash online, with critics likening it to failed software and fundraising campaigns. Meanwhile, Comcast’s spinoff will include several other NBC brands, like CNBC and Oxygen, and although CNBC will retain its name, it will unveil a fresh logo.
Moving forward, NBCUniversal News Group will consist solely of NBC News, NBC News Now Streaming Service, Telemundo, and its owned local stations. Mark Lazarus, the head of the new spinoff, mentioned the aim to mitigate “brand disruption” in this transition.
Lazarus assured that despite the new name, MS will continue serving progressive audiences and emphasized their ongoing commitment to the community. However, Trump forecasted trouble for MSNBC’s “Deadline: White House” host, Nicole Wallace, suggesting she would soon be let go.
In response to a meme portraying Wallace as a clown, Trump indicated that she was “fearing about losing his job,” stating, “She’ll be fired soon! MSNBC is dead!” MSNBC has not provided any comment on these remarks.
