Trump criticizes reporter's 'completely untrue' rumors about a grudge against Harvard University

President Trump has dismissed claims that he is targeting Harvard University after being turned down by Ivy League institutions, calling the rumors “completely false.”

He referred to Michael Wolff, a journalist he labeled as a “third-rate reporter,” suggesting that Wolff claimed Trump only faced setbacks because he applied to Harvard and wasn’t accepted. “The story is completely wrong. I never applied to Harvard,” Trump asserted.

Trump highlighted his education, stating, “I’m a graduate of the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania.”

Wolff, known for his book “Fire & Fury” about Trump’s administration, suggested during a podcast that Trump harbors resentment towards elite schools due to being rejected.

“He needs an enemy,” Wolff said, explaining that Harvard serves as a perfect target for Trump because of what it represents. He added that it’s worth noting that Trump’s discontent with Harvard may not be entirely calculated, especially given the Ivy League backgrounds of many around him.

Wolff further commented that, despite all the noise, Trump never actually attended Harvard.

In response to the criticism, Trump accused Wolff of seeking relevance as his book sales declined. “He’s upset because his book was a complete ‘bomb.’ His report and reputation are so poor that no one wanted it!” Trump stated.

This discussion follows First Lady Melania Trump’s denial of conspiracy theories suggesting that their son, Barron, applied to Harvard and was also rejected. A spokesperson for her clarified, “Barron did not apply to Harvard, and these allegations are completely false.”

The 19-year-old has faced considerable speculation regarding his college admissions, particularly amidst his father’s criticisms of Ivy League schools and the loss of certain federal funding. Barron recently wrapped up his freshman year at New York University.
