Trump criticizes the Supreme Court for halting deportation flights

Trump rails against Supreme Court over blocking of deportation flights

President Trump expressed on Friday that it was a “bad and dangerous day for America” following the Supreme Court’s temporary suspension of the administration’s approach toward Venezuelan gang members.

In a post on a social platform, Trump stated, “The Supreme Court has concluded that the worst offenders—killers, drug dealers, gang members, and individuals with mental health issues—even those who entered the country illegally, cannot be removed without going through an extensive and costly legal process.”

He further remarked, “This decision will lead to an influx of criminals into our nation and pose significant risks to our beloved American citizens. It might even motivate more criminals to enter illegally, bringing disorder and chaos wherever they land.”

The court reached a 7-2 decision, halting authorities from deporting immigrants categorized as alien enemies. Only Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas dissented. Trump expressed gratitude to both in his post, indicating, “I tried to protect our country.”

He advocated for using 18th-century wartime laws as justification for deporting gang-related migrants labeled as terrorist organizations, referring to a “massive invasion” of the country.

In an unsigned opinion, the justices indicated that the Trump administration should notify authorities before transferring immigrants to Salvadoran prisons. However, the court did not address the broader implications of whether such actions are permissible when the country isn’t technically at war, instructing lower courts to act swiftly on merit-based challenges.

Since returning to office, the Supreme Court’s decisions have sparked anger from Trump and his supporters regarding this order. Nevertheless, federal district judges have faced intense scrutiny, with calls for accountability and claims of partisanship directed at them from the president.
