Trump Defines His Key Objective for Leading Venezuela

Trump’s Focus on Venezuela’s Future

President Donald Trump expressed on Thursday his commitment to staying heavily involved in the future of Venezuela until the country finds stability.

Over the weekend, the Trump administration revealed plans to detain Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and govern the country until a so-called “sensible” transition can be established. In an interview with Sean Hannity, Trump pointed to the release of political prisoners as a positive indicator of change, highlighting that individuals who had been imprisoned for an extended period are now seeing their freedom.

“People are being released that, honestly, no one thought they would ever see again. I understand that many of them are actually good people. But, honestly, it’s surprising to see these prisoners set free,” Trump mentioned. “We’re partnering with their leaders, and our collaboration so far has been quite productive. We even intercepted a Russian cargo ship—supposedly there to guard others—and ended up taking it. It’s unloading oil, and we’re talking billions of dollars’ worth.”

According to Trump, the aim is for the U.S. to remain actively engaged in Venezuela’s affairs until it achieves stability.

“This is going to cost trillions of dollars,” he noted. “But we have to stick around until we make things right. We’ll see how it unfolds here. We’re also preparing for discussions with major oil executives tomorrow at the White House.”

He added that significant American energy companies are ready to help rebuild Venezuela’s oil infrastructure.

“The top 14 companies are coming in, and they’re prepared to invest at least $100 billion. Venezuela has remarkable oil reserves, both in quality and quantity,” Trump stated.

Reports indicate that Trump has suggested the U.S. might maintain a level of control over Venezuela long after Maduro’s capture. In a lengthy interview with the New York Times, he hinted that U.S. oversight could persist for years, though he acknowledged that the exact timeline remained uncertain.

Following Maduro’s detainment, Congressional Democrats accused Trump of engaging in unlawful attempts to destabilize foreign governments. However, Trump later emphasized that restoring Venezuela’s infrastructure could yield substantial economic benefits for the nation.
