Following the completion of the first 100 days of his second term, President Donald Trump continues to push forward, highlighting several historic achievements, including a trade truce with China.
“I’m busy, but we’re enjoying things because we’re getting things done,” Trump shared during an exclusive interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity while en route to Saudi Arabia.
In discussing various accomplishments of his administration over the past week, Trump emphasized the significance of a tentative tariff agreement with China.
The potential deal is seen as a crucial step in trade relations; Trump remarked that it reflects ongoing negotiations and reassured reporters that “China is in line with the agreement,” even if it is yet to be officially finalized.
This understanding, made public early on Monday, followed talks held between U.S. and Chinese officials in Geneva over the weekend.
“They were basically trading right from the get-go,” Trump noted in his conversation with Hannity. He described one of the most thrilling prospects of the agreement as the U.S. effort to “open” China.
“We opened the United States years ago. It’s time for China to open. That’s part of our deal, and for me, that’s the most exciting aspect,” he stated.
The proposed trade ceasefire introduces a 90-day cooling-off period between the two leading global economies, temporarily halting the previous escalation of their tariff conflict, which had led to a significant downturn in financial markets last month. During this cooling-off period, tariffs that were scheduled against China on April 2 are set to decrease by 24 percentage points while retaining a 10% rate from that announcement, as per a joint statement from both nations.
