Trump Claims Iran Agreed to Nuclear Inspections Amid Contradictory Statements
In a recent declaration, President Donald Trump stated that Iran has consented to high-level nuclear inspections, directly countering claims from Iranian officials. His remarks followed a statement from Esmaeil Baghaei, the Iranian spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who insisted that no new nuclear commitments had been made by Iran.
“Despite their protestations and false statements to the contrary, coupled with the drumbeat of the Fake News, which is doing everything possible to make the U.S. Victory as small and insignificant as possible, Iran has fully and completely agreed to highest level Nuclear inspections long into the future (Infinity!!!),” Trump posted on Truth Social. “This will ensure ‘Nuclear Honesty.’ If they did not agree to this, there would be no further negotiations!”
Discussions between the U.S. and Iran commenced on Sunday in Switzerland after both nations signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) last week, initiating a 60-day window to finalize an agreement. Vice President JD Vance, leading the U.S. delegation, remarked on Monday that Iran had agreed to the entry of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors into its territory, which he called a significant step for the American populace.
On Tuesday, Trump underscored that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open, despite earlier claims that Iran had blocked it due to tensions arising from the conflict in Lebanon.
“Based on this and other major concessions being made by Iran, I have agreed to allow the Hormuz Strait to remain OPEN, with no further Naval Blockade. However, all ships are remaining in place should it be necessary to reinstitute the Blockade, which seems, at this point, highly unlikely,” Trump stated.
The President also touched upon the unfreezing of Iranian assets and the lifting of sanctions, asserting that these funds would be designated for purchasing American goods. His comments highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Iran, emphasizing the urgency to assist before the situation worsens.
“The Money and/or Sanctions that the U.S. Treasury is releasing goes into escrow, controlled by the U.S.A., and will be used for the purchase of food and medical supplies, exclusively from the United States, including Corn, Wheat, and Soybeans from our great American Farmers,” he mentioned. “These are things that are desperately needed by Iran. This is a humanitarian crisis, and I feel it is necessary to help, NOW, before it is too late. Talks are going well!”
However, an Iranian envoy asserted that Iran would determine how to utilize the assets released through the agreement, refuting the claim that they would be allocated for American goods, as reported by Reuters.
Vance, who departed from Switzerland on Monday, indicated that technical discussions toward a final accord would carry on, citing progress in negotiations he highlighted with four key achievements: a permanent mechanism for keeping the Strait of Hormuz open, a framework for regional conflict de-escalation, an agreement on inspecting Iranian nuclear sites, and processes for ongoing technical negotiations.
