Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said Sunday on CNN's “State of the Union” that former President Donald Trump allows his property to be used for events because he doesn't care about the country at all.
Host Dana Bash said, “Special counsel Jack Smith filed new charges against Donald Trump this week for election interference, even after the Supreme Court ruled him immune. This comes as two pro-Trump groups are planning to hold a ceremony to honor all of the J-6 defendants at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster on January 6th. Trump has now been invited to speak, and according to organizers, he hasn't ruled out the possibility of speaking. Whether he goes to speak or not, what do you think about the fact that he's allowing his property to be used for this event?”
Schiff said, “First of all, the Department of Justice is absolutely right to refile these charges in the wake of that ridiculously dangerous Supreme Court decision that seeks to give immunity to a president for committing crimes while in office. So he is right to refile these charges. But the president allowing this event to honor the people who beat, gassed, and sprayed bears, who are responsible for the deaths of police officers, who basically tried to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power for the first time in history, shows that Donald Trump doesn't care about the country, he doesn't care about the Constitution or the oath of office. It's only about himself. Honoring these people is a green light for further violence if he loses the next election. So it's another dangerous and disrespectful acquiescence to lawlessness by Donald Trump and those who support him.”
