Trump Defends Quarterback Dart After Controversial Appearance
President Donald Trump has come to the defense of New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart after the player faced backlash online and from teammates following his introduction of Trump at a campaign rally.
Dart surprised the crowd on May 22 during an event at Rockland Community College in Suffern, New York, supporting Representative Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.). He received enthusiastic applause and led the audience in a “Go Big Blue” chant before warmly introducing Trump.
“He’s potentially a great quarterback. He’s a young boy who’s just started. But when he’s in the game, he moves the team. I didn’t know him, but I’ve watched him a little bit. He’s got tremendous potential. If he stays healthy, he’s going to be great,” said Trump, highlighting Dart’s abilities.
“So, when Jaxson gets harassed a little bit, he’s also loved more. Because we have more people than they do,” he added.
Dart’s appearance drew significant criticism on social media and sports commentary. The conversation even made its way into the Giants’ locker room, where linebacker Abdul Carter publicly questioned Dart’s decision, suggesting it seemed inauthentic.
In an effort to address any potential issues within the team, Dart held a closed-door meeting with his teammates. While specific details of the discussion remain undisclosed, it is reported that his explanation was well-received and helped to ease any tensions.
Carter later confirmed that he and Dart had a private conversation to resolve any misunderstandings, stating that their relationship is now solid, which alleviates concerns about division in the team’s dynamic.
