Exit polls conducted by Decision Desk Headquarters show that former President Trump is expected to easily defeat his rival, Nikki Haley, in the South Carolina Republican primary.
The Palmetto State is the third consecutive state in which Mr. Trump has surpassed Ms. Haley in the polls. The two did not compete together in Nevada, where head-to-head primaries and caucuses were held.
Trump was almost expected to win, with an average of South Carolina polls compiled by Decision Desk and The Hill showing her leading Haley 64% to 33%.
Haley is President Trump’s last remaining major Republican challenger. Her victory over Trump is likely to fuel further questions about her viability, especially given that she previously served as governor of South Carolina.
Still, Haley signaled she was in it for the long haul, saying earlier this week, “South Carolina votes on Saturday, but on Sunday I’ll still be running for president.”
As it looks increasingly like a rematch between President Trump and President Biden, many Republicans are starting to shift their focus primarily to the general election.
All eyes are currently on Super Tuesday, March 5th. Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia and American Samoa will perform. Ballot paper for presidential election.
The Trump campaign said in a memo this week that it expected the former president to secure the necessary number of Republican delegates to win the nomination by March 19.
