Trump Emphasizes Attacks on Public Officials in D.C. and Disorder in Navy Yard

President Trump Addresses Crime in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON – Over the weekend, President Donald Trump highlighted incidents of crime and disorder affecting civil servants in the naval yards of southeastern Washington, D.C., while announcing that the federal government would be taking control of metropolitan police.

He cited several alarming incidents, such as an attack involving former Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE) staff, which included a stabbing of an aide to Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) and a carjacking involving Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) in the Navy Yard. Trump also mentioned the murder of former Trump administration official Mike Gill as yet another example of escalating violence.

“A few days ago, a former member of the DOGE staff was brutally beaten by a group known as the Roving Thugs while trying to protect a young woman from a carjacking,” he recounted. “I thought he might have died from injuries, but astonishingly, he survived.”

In June, a tragic incident claimed the life of a 21-year-old Congress intern who was unfortunately struck by a stray bullet during a drive-by shooting. Trump expressed his disbelief about the incident, highlighting the senseless nature of the violence: “A former official, Mike Gill, was murdered in cold blood during a carjacking last year. It’s shocking how far this has gone from the White House.”

“What’s truly alarming is that just last weekend, a three-year-old girl was shot in the head while in a car near the Capitol. It’s spiraling into a completely lawless situation, and we will be addressing these issues more aggressively,” he remarked.

He specifically pointed to incidents on July 4th where assailants were seen roaming the streets of the Navy Yard.

Trump underscored that gunfire had erupted just north of Nationals Park in the area over the weekend, commenting, “Just last weekend there was a shootout, and I noticed it this morning.”

He concluded by stating that law enforcement is now “empowered to act without limitations.” The situation, as he described, underscores a pressing concern for safety in the capital.
