Trump’s Endorsement for Cuomo in NYC Mayoral Race
President Donald Trump has urged voters in New York City to support former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the upcoming mayoral election. He cautioned that voting for Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa would essentially back Democratic candidate, socialist Zoran Mamdani.
In a post on “Society of Truth,” Trump expressed concerns that if Mamdani were to win, the city would face severe economic and social turmoil. He highlighted Cuomo’s prior successes, stating he’d prefer a Democrat like Cuomo over an inexperienced “communist” like Mamdani.
Trump further criticized Mamdani, labeling him ineffective as a lawmaker and suggesting he ranks low in political capability. “Remember this,” Trump said, “A vote for Curtis Sliwa, who, by the way, looks much better without a beret, indirectly supports Mamdani. Like him or not, you have to vote for Cuomo and hope he performs well. I believe he can; Mamdani cannot!”
Trump’s backing of Cuomo follows endorsements from prominent figures like Elon Musk and Michael Bloomberg, who have also favored Cuomo in the mayoral race. Musk tweeted a reminder to vote, emphasizing that supporting Sliwa would inadvertently help Mamdani.
A recent poll from AllastoIntel revealed that 43.9% of likely voters favor Mamdani, compared to 39.4% for Cuomo, with Sliwa at 15.5%. Notably, in a hypothetical matchup solely between Mamdani and Cuomo, Cuomo takes the lead with 49.7% to Mamdani’s 44.1%.
Reportedly, Mamdani advocates for city-run grocery stores and suggests substituting police officers with mental health professionals for specific responses to crime. In retaliation to Trump’s remarks about withholding federal funds if Mamdani is elected, Mamdani asserted that his administration would be ready to counter not just Trump, but also the broader affordability crisis facing the city.
