Former President Trump on Tuesday endorsed Republican Eric Hovde in the Wisconsin Senate race to unseat Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.).
“I met with Eric and studied Eric and I because we have to handle ourselves right and play against very good people. But when I looked into it, they had There will be another opportunity. Eric, I fully support you,” President Trump said at a rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin businessman began running for Baldwin’s seat in February, ending months of speculation. Wisconsin is one of the few battleground states that will decide the presidency and control of the Senate.
The Wisconsin Democratic Party condemned Trump’s endorsement in a statement shortly after his announcement.
“Eric Hovde and Donald Trump are two birds of a feather, two out of touch rich people who are going to put themselves first and the people of Wisconsin last,” Wisconsin Democratic Party spokesperson Arik Wolk said in a statement. ”.
“Whether it’s banning abortion, repealing the Affordable Care Act, or promoting the MAGA conspiracy around January 6th and the 2020 election, Donald Trump and Eric Hovde are not going to fight for Wisconsin values. ”
Cook Political Report, a nonpartisan election handicapping paper, rates Baldwin’s seat as “lean Democratic.”
