Trump explains why he commented on Sheduer Sanders’ draft decline.

When Shedeur Sanders unexpectedly dropped in the NFL draft, Donald Trump urged NFL owners to take a chance on the former Colorado Buffalo quarterback. Initially expected to go in the second round, Sanders’ draft slide caught attention.

During the draft, Trump made a direct appeal to the team owners, questioning their decision-making. “What’s wrong with the owners of the NFL, are they stupid?” he remarked on April 25. He praised Deion Sanders, Shedeur’s father, as a significant figure in college football and noted that he is an astute coach.

In a phone interview, Trump explained his support for Shedeur stemmed from a mix of his father’s reputation and the quarterback’s physical attributes. “His father is a big Trump fan, and I like it when people are Trump fans,” he said. He also mentioned Shedeur’s noteworthy genetics, expressing appreciation for the quarterback’s skills. “I thought he was a really talented quarterback,” Trump added, emphasizing his admiration for Shedeur’s “gene pool.”

Shilo Sanders, Shedeur’s brother, also reflected on Trump’s involvement, calling it one of the coolest moments he had seen. After the draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Shilo as an undrafted free agent, which his Hall of Fame father acknowledged with gratitude.

Dion Sanders expressed his appreciation for Tampa’s opportunity, describing it as a great place with an impressive coach. He reached out to Tampa Bay’s general manager to thank him for the chance given to his sons.

Shedeur concluded the 2024 season with 4,134 passing yards and is now joining a competitive quarterback lineup in Cleveland, which includes Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel.
