Trump’s Outburst Against Ilhan Omar
On Tuesday, President Trump expressed his frustration over Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar, accusing her of engaging in “despicable” actions. He mentioned her controversial claim about marrying her brother to acquire U.S. citizenship.
At a rally in northeastern Pennsylvania, Trump remarked, “I love this Ilhan Omar with a little turban, whatever her name is,” seemingly referencing her hijab.
He continued, “I love her. She visits, yet she doesn’t seem to contribute anything. All she does is complain. She’s from a country that, well, isn’t exactly known for its greatness, right?”
The audience reacted loudly, chanting “Send her back!” as Trump reiterated unfounded accusations that members of the “Squad” had engaged in immigration fraud by marrying relatives.
Trump voiced his intention to see her expelled, saying, “We need to get rid of her once and for all.”
He further claimed, “She married her brother to get into the country. Can you imagine if I married my sister? She’s stunning. If I did that for citizenship, would I last long?”
Omar has faced allegations since 2016, when these claims first surfaced on conservative blogs during her congressional campaign in Minnesota. At the time, she labeled them as “baseless rumors,” describing them as “completely false and ridiculous.”
In her personal history, she first married Ahmed Nur Saeed Elmi in 2009, but that marriage ended in 2011. Later, she wed Ahmed Hirisi, though they separated in 2019.
Trump’s remarks came as the Minnesota region dealt with scrutiny over a $1 billion fraud scandal involving social programs, primarily affecting Somali immigrant communities.
Following this, Trump declared his opposition to Somali immigrants. Recently, ICE conducted a large operation in Minnesota, arresting several undocumented individuals.
Notably, the Minneapolis-St. Paul area is home to the largest Somali population in the U.S.
