In December, when it became apparent that the full release of Jeffrey Epstein’s files would be postponed, some Democrats suggested that President Donald Trump might be trying to conceal troubling information about his connections to a child sex offender.
For instance, Senator Chuck Schumer from New York, who had received donations from Epstein, stated, “This is nothing but a cover-up to protect Donald Trump from his ugly past.”
But it turns out, contrary to Schumer’s claims, one of the recently released documents shows that Trump wasn’t exactly an ally of Epstein. Reportedly, Trump praised law enforcement for their efforts against Epstein and emphasized the need to focus on Epstein’s ex-girlfriend and accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell.
The document in question, dated April 23, 2020, outlines interviews that FBI agents had with law enforcement officials the prior year regarding Epstein’s case from the 2000s, along with discussions involving then-President Trump.
While his name is redacted in the document, it seems to indicate the interviewee became the Palm Beach Police Chief in 2001.
Michael Reiter, who served as the Palm Beach PD Chief from 2001 to 2009 and initiated the first probe into Epstein, confirmed that he spoke to President Trump in July 2006.
“When word got out that Trump was investigating Epstein, he was one of the first people people called,” the interviewee recounted to the FBI, according to an FBI interview summary.
Notably, Trump mentioned that he had expelled Epstein from his Mar-a-Lago property, adding that people in New York were aware of Epstein’s disgusting behavior. He recalled having been present around Epstein when “teenagers” were there, commenting that he “got the hell out of there.”
The FBI’s document indicates that President Trump expressed relief, saying, “I’m glad we stopped him. We all knew he was doing this,” and showed appreciation toward those who took action against sex offenders.
In the same conversation, Trump characterized Maxwell as “evil,” asserting that she should be the main focus of attention.
Maxwell, 64, was sentenced to twenty years in prison in 2022 for her involvement in schemes dating back to the early 1990s to exploit and abuse underage girls.
Interestingly, an FBI official informed the Miami Herald, “We are not aware of any evidence that the president contacted law enforcement twenty years ago.”
Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican from Florida, stated, “Mr. Trump did not initiate their scheme; he cooperated with their exposure, and since they could not blackmail him, they tried to smear Mr. Trump,” referring to the recently released documents.
