Trump goes to Fort Bragg to pay tribute to special operations forces

President Trump’s Visit to Fort Bragg

On Friday, President Trump visited Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he honored U.S. special forces and their families for their involvement in capturing Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, earlier this year.

Accompanying him was First Lady Melania Trump, who took the time to engage with military families during the visit. Fort Bragg, noted for housing the largest U.S. Army special operations forces, has become a significant location for such honors.

In the lead-up to the visit, Trump shared his thoughts on social media, describing the relationship between the United States and Venezuela as “extraordinary.” He highlighted ongoing cooperation regarding oil revenues and plans for a transition in leadership.

Following Maduro’s arrest, Vice President Delcy Rodríguez stepped in as the new leader of Venezuela. She has asserted that both Maduro and Flores are innocent, firmly denying allegations that prompted their arrests. Despite this, the U.S. maintains a position where it can influence Venezuela’s leadership.

In late January, a notable energy deal was struck between the United States and Rodríguez’s interim government. As part of this arrangement, the U.S. began to sell Venezuelan oil, with the funds going into U.S.-controlled accounts, managed at the government’s discretion.

Operation Maduro, also called Operation Absolute Resolve, involved nearly 200 U.S. soldiers, resulting in injuries to seven personnel. On the other side, Venezuela’s Ministry of Defense reported that 83 individuals, comprising security forces and Cuban personnel, lost their lives during the incident.

Fort Bragg also plays a vital role in potential military actions in the Middle East, particularly in light of Trump’s ongoing call for negotiations with Iran, warning of dire repercussions if talks stall. This visit coincided with the U.S. deploying its second aircraft carrier, the USS Ford, to the region as diplomatic efforts progressed.

While the Pentagon has not disclosed specific units involved in the operation, it remains a key focus for U.S. military strategy.

Trump has continually praised Maduro’s capture, branding it a “spectacular” operation that demonstrates U.S. strength in its own region. He praised the special operators, calling them a “patriotic group” that loves the country, suggesting they were unstoppable.

Interestingly, Trump mentioned a classified tool referred to as a “discombobulator,” designed to disrupt Venezuelan communications and equipment, although he didn’t provide details, stating, “I’m not allowed to talk about it.” He claimed that the operation led to chaos, with none of the equipment functioning as intended.
