A new poll shows former President Trump has a 9-point lead over Vice President Kamala Harris on handling the economy, the most important issue for voters heading into the 2024 presidential election.
of New poll by Gallup It found that 54% of Americans say Trump is better able to handle the economy, compared to 45% for Harris. The economy ranks as the most important issue for Republicans and all Americans, but it is not in the top five for Democrats.
Hank Sheinkoff, a veteran Democratic strategist, said Democrats simply have confidence in Harris' economic relief plan.
“Independents are looking for a reason to vote for a candidate, and they haven't found it yet,” Scheinkopf said in an interview on Fox News Digital. “Americans focus on the issues that matter most to them in every election. This time it's about their pocketbooks. And no matter what the candidates say, they still feel the pain. Time is running out for Mr. Harris to prove he can improve the situation.”
He also argued that the economy is a politicized issue, just like immigration or abortion, suggesting that polarization is having a huge impact on voters' opinions about the economy.

For Republicans, the most important issues after the economy are immigration, terrorism and national security, crime, and taxes.
For Democrats, the biggest issue is American democracy, followed by the type of Supreme Court justice candidates will choose, abortion, health care, and education.
Mr. Trump also leads Ms. Harris on immigration (54% to 45%) and foreign affairs (52% to 47%). But Harris holds unique leads on the top Democratic issues, including health care (54% to 44%), abortion (56% to 40%) and climate change (61% to 35%).

Climate change ranks as the least important issue for Republicans, with only 5% saying it is a priority. The least important issues for Democrats are the federal budget deficit and trade with other countries, both tied at 16%.

Gallup conducted the poll between September 16th and 28th among 941 registered voters via telephone interviews on cellphones and landlines. The poll touts a 4% margin of error.
A New York Times/Siena College poll released Tuesday found that Harris has a slight lead over Trump in national polls. According to the poll, Harris had an approval rating of 49% among likely voters nationwide, while former president and Republican candidate Harris had an approval rating of 46%.

According to polls, in districts with multiple candidates, Harris has a 47% lead and Trump has a 44% lead. Green Party candidate Jill Stein and Liberal Chase Oliver each received 1%, with about 7% undecided about whether to support another candidate.

Although within the poll's sampling error, Harris' lead is up from last month's New York Times/Siena poll, when the two major party candidates were deadlocked at 47 percent.
