Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) said Thursday on MSNBC’s “The ReidOut” that former President Donald Trump has brought “hell and chaos” to the United States.
Host Joy Reid asked: “Are any of your colleagues concerned that MPs will be targeted if these people are put back on the streets?”
“When threats come to me or my colleagues, we are told that we are being targeted, too, although the Department of Justice does a very good job of tracking these down,” Swalwell said. But we also see that law enforcement agencies unleash and create an environment of fear, as do FBI agents and Justice Department prosecutors, who are responsible for just as many murders as me and my colleagues. I’m receiving threats.”
He added: “That’s exactly the hell and chaos he brought to our country. And it’s very easy to do that when you don’t have a firewall within your own party to stop it. That’s why this is all so important. Functionally speaking, we’re not powerless here, so I’m working with the Department of Justice to create a bill that would create a harassment crime, and make sure that it’s not just a high threat and that it protects people as much as possible.
