Trump ‘Has Simple-Minded Ideas About How the World Works’

Former National Security Adviser John Bolton told MSNBC’s “Deadline” on Wednesday that former President Donald Trump had “simple ideas about how the world works.”

“I think it’s important to understand that he has no philosophy, and this is especially important for Trump’s critics to understand,” Bolton said. He does not think in terms of policy, as traditionally understood in Washington. He’s thinking about it from an anecdotal, ad hoc, transactional perspective, looking through the prism of how this benefits Donald Trump. ”

He continued, “He has simple ideas about how the world works. For example, if you have good relations with foreign heads of state, you have good relations with Vladimir Putin.” I think he said very clearly that if the United States has good relations with that country, that’s nonsense. Like everything else, there are personal and personal issues in foreign affairs. Relationships play an important role, but the bigots in countries like China and Russia know what their national interests are and pursue them. Donald Trump has no clue. .”

Mr Bolton added: “He fundamentally doesn’t understand what an alliance is. He thinks we’re protecting the Europeans, but they won’t pay us. do not understand that mutual security means security for everyone and that there is strength in alliances.Alliances can be cumbersome to manage, but they do not serve national security interests. If this is the case, especially as is the case with NATO, getting out of there will have unimaginable negative consequences for the United States.”
