Trump Highlights Success of Crime Enforcement as Murder Rate Keeps Decreasing

Trump Celebrates Crime Reduction Achievements

President Donald Trump on Friday praised his administration’s efforts in tackling crime, specifically noting significant reductions in murder and violent crime rates.

Speaking to law enforcement officials in Nassau County, New York, Trump highlighted what he considers notable progress in the fight against crime.

“With your support, we achieved last year the biggest reduction in the homicide rate in history—the lowest it’s been in 125 years. That’s since 1900—before my father was even born,” he remarked.

He expressed excitement about the recent release of the FBI’s new Uniform Crime Report, stating it shows the largest drop in violent crime in U.S. history by 2025. Trump projected that 2025 would see 3,100 fewer murders, 10,000 fewer rapes, and a million fewer incidents of assaults, robberies, and thefts compared to 2024, which was President Joe Biden’s last full year in office. He believes that declines in murders and robberies are set to continue, with projections of further reductions of 23% and 20%, respectively, by 2026.

“The current provisional numbers are even better than the record numbers previously mentioned. I owe a lot of this to everyone in this room,” he said, attributing the improvements to collaborative efforts.

Supporting his claims, data from the Council on Criminal Justice (CCJ) indicated that crime rates are expected to continue their downward trend through 2026. The CCJ found that across 30 surveyed cities, the homicide rate in the first half of 2026 was down by 18% compared to the same period in 2025, with 215 fewer homicides reported.

Trump also provided an update on federal law enforcement activities since he took office. In a bold claim, he stated that “over 1.2 million criminals” have been arrested nationwide. He emphasized the need for effective law enforcement, saying, “We must ensure we address defective practices.”

He suggested that federal criminal prosecutions have increased by about 50%, which he believes directly correlates with reduced crime rates.

Interestingly, he pointed out that under his administration, the FBI has nearly doubled the number of arrests made for violent crime, further indicating a strong push against crime trends.

“It’s all in the numbers,” Trump concluded, reflecting on the successes of his administration in combating crime.
