Trump highlights 'trillions' from Asia visit before meeting with Xi Jinping

Trump’s Asia Trip Highlighted by Major Agreements and Upcoming Meeting with Xi

President Donald Trump is busy with important meetings but insists his trip to Asia has been a great success, claiming it has brought back “trillions of dollars” to the U.S.

“We brought trillions of dollars back to the United States! What a great trip! We met some incredibly smart and capable leaders,” he shared. He also hinted that his upcoming meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping could be significant, stating, “Tomorrow is President Xi of China. It will be a great meeting for both countries!”

Regardless of the details, eyes are watching closely as Trump meets Xi on Thursday. This will mark their first in-person discussion since Trump resumed his presidency in January.

Discussion on Fentanyl Trafficking

While traveling to South Korea, Trump mentioned to reporters on Air Force One that fentanyl trafficking would be a primary focus during his meeting with Xi, along with other issues like trade and tariffs.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson confirmed that the two leaders would engage in meaningful discussions on strategic long-term issues.

Throughout his trip, Trump signed agreements with multiple countries including Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Japan, and South Korea. A new trade framework was also established with Thailand and Vietnam, while agreements with Malaysia and Cambodia have notably reduced tariffs on U.S. exports, according to the White House.

Investment and Economic Deals

In Malaysia, Trump secured billions in investments and mineral deals aimed at boosting trade. Notably, in Japan, he announced an extension of a previous investment commitment worth $550 billion and made strides in cooperation to combat illegal drug trafficking.

Investments from Japan are expected to cover diverse sectors, including artificial intelligence and energy. Both Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi have sought to strengthen their alliance further.

Successful Agreements in South Korea

In South Korea, Trump finalized a significant deal, including plans for Korean Air to purchase 103 new Boeing aircraft valued at $36.2 billion. In another agreement, Korea Gas Corp. committed to buying 3.3 million tons of U.S. liquefied natural gas annually.

Reportedly, South Korea honored Trump with the Order of Mugunghwa, its highest award, as a token of appreciation for his diplomatic efforts thus far.

Peace Steps in Southeast Asia

During his Asia tour, Trump also oversaw the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Agreement, effectively ending military hostilities between Cambodia and Thailand. Although previously he had threatened tariffs to pressure both nations into negotiations, he has shown a willingness to meet with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, though a meeting has yet to be scheduled.
