Trump hints at ‘important’ role for Burgum in potential next administration

Former President Trump said Republican North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum could play a “significant” role in the next administration if he returns to the White House.

“Governor Doug Burgum and his beautiful wife Katherine from North Dakota, and he withdrew from the race. What people don't know is that he actually supported me on the other side two more times. And then he decided to do it. He was outstanding, but traction is never easy, right?” Trump said in remarks after winning the Iowa caucuses on Monday. Ta.

“Sometimes you need arguments to get traction, but this guy is the most solid guy. Any controversy doesn't exist,” he added. “And he's one of the best governors in our country, and I hope I can ask him to be a part of my administration, a very important part of my administration.”

Burgum launched a strong bid for the Republican presidential nomination last year, but suspended his campaign last month after failing to gain traction in the polls. The governor endorsed Trump at his Iowa campaign rally on Sunday. The day before, the former president won easily in the caucuses.

In his endorsement, Burgum said that when Trump was in the White House, states like North Dakota “had friends and partners in the White House.” Burkum is seeking re-election for a third term as governor in 2024, but has not yet made his plans public.

Speculation is also swirling about who Trump will choose as his running mate if he continues on his path to the Republican nomination.

The former president suggested during a Fox News town hall last week that he already knows who he would choose as vice president, and that he was open to choosing someone who has previously opposed him. .
