Trump hints at the comeback of a reboot of 'The Apprentice' with Donald Trump Jr. hosting

Potential Reboot of “The Apprentice” Starring Donald Trump Jr.

President Donald Trump addressed speculation that his son, Donald Trump Jr., might take over as the new host of a reboot of “The Apprentice,” a reality series that the president famously hosted before entering politics.

Talks about this possible project are still in very early stages, and it appears Amazon hasn’t formally contacted the Trump family yet. If it progresses, there’s a possibility that the reboot could be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Reports suggest that Amazon is considering Donald Trump Jr. for the hosting role. He has been involved with the show previously, acting as a boardroom advisor for Trump executives Carolyn Kepcher and George Ross.

Originally launched in 2004 and running on NBC until 2017, “The Apprentice” showcased aspiring business leaders competing for a position within the Trump Organization.

During his time on the show, Trump significantly elevated his national profile, becoming well-known for the catchphrase “You’re fired!” before stepping away from the show in 2015 to pursue his presidential campaign.

In a recent interview with Fox News, the president remarked that his son would likely do well as the host, calling him a “good guy.”

“He’s got a little charisma going. You need a little charisma for that sucker. So, we’ll see what happens,” Trump noted, emphasizing the show’s past success over its 14 seasons.

According to reports from The Wall Street Journal, Trump Jr. indicated this was his first awareness of being considered for the role, and no communication from Amazon executives had happened yet regarding this possibility.

The Wall Street Journal also mentioned that Amazon executives had previously discussed the idea of featuring Trump Jr. as the host if the reboot gets the green light.

While Amazon stated that a reboot is “not in active development,” they did confirm to Variety that they have begun “preliminary internal discussions” about “The Apprentice” after acquiring Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and the associated franchise in 2022.

“Any reports concerning the show’s details or potential hosts are purely speculative,” Amazon added.

This hinted interest in reviving “The Apprentice” suggests Amazon is looking to strengthen its relationship with the Trump family, particularly after producing a documentary about First Lady Melania Trump directed by Brett Ratner.

Amazon allegedly paid $40 million for the rights to the documentary, significantly outbidding Disney. Furthermore, additional marketing expenses brought their total investment to roughly $75 million.

Jeff Bezos, who stepped down as Amazon’s CEO in 2021 but continues as executive chairman, was recently questioned about whether the company’s involvement in the documentary was an effort to appease the Trump administration, a suggestion he denied.
