New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani expressed on Wednesday his desire to put an end to the ongoing feud with rapper 50 Cent.
During an appearance on the “Complex” podcast, host Gillian Superstar interrupted the mayor while asking about his ideal dinner guest, living or dead. Mamdani didn’t hesitate to name Mayor Fiorello La Guardia, calling him the best mayor in the city’s history.
“I’d like to invite 50 Cent too, so we can discuss tax policy,” he added.
The host agreed, emphasizing the importance of such a conversation.
Previously, in an interview on “The Breakfast Club” last year, Mamdani acknowledged that while he appreciates 50 Cent, the rapper disagrees with his tax initiatives.
“If 50 Cent were listening, he’d probably be unhappy about this,” he said. “He generally dislikes the tax policy, but just to clarify, that comes down to about $20,000 a year. For someone like 50 Cent, that’s practically nothing.”
“Ultimately, these measures aim to improve life for all New Yorkers, including those currently facing taxes,” Mamdani remarked during a June 2025 podcast.
Shortly after, 50 Cent responded, “Where is he from? Who’s his friend? I’m not on board with this plan. Instead, I’ll offer him $258,750 and a first-class, one-way ticket out of New York. I’ll also tell Trump what he just said!”
Mamdani reiterated on Wednesday that his admiration for 50 Cent remains, even if their views on policy clash. He highlighted their connection when he quoted the rapper’s song “Get Rich or Die Tryin'” during a recent commencement speech.
The interviewer inquired, “So, is this a one-sided beef?”
“Yes, it’s definitely one-sided,” Mamdani confirmed.
He noted, “There will always be differing views on the tax policy. I believe in raising taxes for the wealthiest, something he opposes. However, regardless of our differences, I still enjoy the song ‘Many Men.’”
A request for comment from a representative of 50 Cent went unanswered.
