Former President Trump suggested Wednesday that he knows who his running mate would be if he wins the Republican nomination.
Trump attended a Fox News town hall in Iowa, where anchor Martha McCallum asked which candidates would join Trump on the Republican ticket.
“Well, I can't really tell you. I mean, I know who it's going to be,” Trump said.
Asked if he would consider anyone who ran against him in the primary, Trump said he would.
President Trump, noting that former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie withdrew from the primary earlier in the day and criticized fellow candidate Nikki Haley in the process, said, “I've already written more about Christie.'' I’m starting to like him,” he quipped.
NBC News reported that Trump campaign advisers have made it clear that nothing has been finalized regarding the choice of vice president.
Trump is a strong front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination and has maintained a solid lead in national and state-level polls since announcing his candidacy in November 2022.
Nationally, Trump leads his Republican rival by 53 points, with a 36-point lead in Iowa and 11 points in New Hampshire, according to The Hill/Decision Desk polling averages.
President Trump has remained largely silent about who he would choose as his running mate, but he has mentioned South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R) as an option he would consider. The former president has no plans to select his former running mate, Vice President Mike Pence, for another campaign.
Trump allies are pushing for a female vice presidential candidate, including Rep. Elise Stefanik (R), Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R), and Haley. .
