“We are honored to welcome 275 amazing linemen from FPL as we prepare to respond to the impacts of Hurricane #Milton!” President Trump's son Eric Trump wrote in a post on The announcement was made with a video of him getting ready to head to his room.
“You are amazing and the Trump family and the entire state of Florida think highly of you. Enjoy the best guest rooms in Florida. Stay safe!” Eric Trump added.
Hurricane Milton, which is expected to make landfall Wednesday night, has reportedly been downgraded to a Category 3 from a Category 5 rating just days before it was scheduled to make landfall.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 6 million Florida residents are currently under mandatory evacuation orders due to the hurricane. The storm is expected to cause extensive flooding and damage critical infrastructure.
President Trump's Doral resort, where the linemen are staying, has 643 guest rooms, four deluxe suites, 27 premier suites and two presidential suites. Nightly rates typically start at $300 or more.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) announced that more than 50,000 linemen across the country are preparing to assist in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, the largest such effort in U.S. history. He added that public utility workers were dispatched to the scene.
“As soon as the storm passes, an assessment will occur and power restoration efforts will begin immediately,” DeSantis said.
Additionally, former President Trump has launched a GoFundMe for victims of Hurricane Helen, which struck last week and affected multiple states in the Southeast. This fundraising campaign has so far raised $7,657,811 million. The event was organized by Meredith O'Rourke, director of the National Treasury and senior adviser to Trump's 2024 campaign.
“President Donald J. Trump launched this GoFundMe campaign as an official response for MAGA supporters to provide financial assistance to fellow Americans affected by Hurricane Helen. As many people face hardship in the aftermath of the storm, President Trump is out in the community seeing the aftermath firsthand. Every donation will help those most affected by Hurricane Helen. Any level of generosity will go a long way toward helping fellow Americans who are suffering,” the GoFundMe says.
As officials prepare for the aftermath, Vice President Kamala Harris recently called out Florida's governor for “political games” after he reportedly did not answer phone calls before Hurricane Milton made landfall. They decided to criticize the governor and criticize him for doing so. However, these claims of Ms. Harris have been challenged by her own boss, President Joe Biden.
“People are in dire need of help right now, and in times of crisis, people are using this moment to play political games. This is the height of the emergency and is completely irresponsible and self-serving. “That's true,” Harris said.
Shortly after, Biden spoke up and refuted those claims, explaining that he had already spoken to DeSantis and that the Republican Florida governor had done a “great job.”
“The governor of Florida has been supportive. He said we've got everything we need. I spoke to him again yesterday and said, no, you're doing a great job, everything is going well. We said thank you for that,” Biden said.
DeSantis also later said he had no idea Harris was trying to contact him and criticized her claim that Harris was “playing political games” regarding the storm.
“I've worked on these hurricanes under both President Trump and President Biden. Neither of them tried to politicize it. From the time she became vice president until now, I've worked on these hurricanes under both President Trump and President Biden. We've never had a storm like the one we've had,” DeSantis said. “Why would she suddenly want to parachute in and inject herself when she's never shown any interest before? We think it's because of politics and because of her campaign. I know there is.”
“Mr. Harris is not even in the chain of command. She has no role in this,” DeSantis continued. “The idea that I have to worry about her when I'm focused on the task at hand is frankly ridiculous.”
