Trump indicates his decision on signing a bill to make Epstein files public

Trump Supports Epstein File Release Bill

President Donald Trump expressed his support for a bill aimed at compelling the Justice Department to release all files related to Jeffrey Epstein, a financier who has faced significant controversy. “I’m all for it,” he commented when questioned by a reporter during a press briefing at the White House. This statement came as the House was preparing for a vote on the legislation.

Trump stated, “We have nothing to do with Epstein. The Democrats have. All of his friends were Democrats.” He continued to emphasize his achievements in lowering prices and making energy more affordable, while he seemed concerned that the Epstein issue could distract from those accomplishments. “All I want is for people to recognize the great work I’ve done,” he added.

When asked whether he would sign the bill if it reached his desk, he replied affirmatively, “Of course I would.”

House Republicans Remain Cautious

Despite Trump’s backing, Republican lawmakers expressed mixed feelings ahead of the House vote. They indicated they planned to support the bill but still had reservations about its implications. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, who has opposed the bill to some extent, mentioned that he hopes modifications will be made in the Senate to enhance protections for individuals whose names might be mentioned in the released files.

“Let the Senate look at it. Let everyone look at it,” Trump advised, although he suggested that the focus should remain on the Democrats, claiming they had deeper ties to Epstein. “It’s really a Democratic issue,” he affirmed.

Continuing Debate

The bill, set for discussion in the House, is being introduced through a mechanism called a petition for removal, led by Representatives Ro Khanna and Thomas Massey. Trump took to Truth Social to encourage House Republicans to favor the document release, asserting that if the Democrats possessed incriminating evidence, it would have emerged before the last presidential election.

“When Jeffrey Epstein was alive, no one cared about him,” Trump declared, arguing that the Democrats would have acted decisively if they had any damaging information. He cautioned that some Republicans might be “used” by the Democrats in this context and called upon his party to focus on their achievements rather than getting entangled inEpstein’s issues. “It’s actually a curse on the Democratic Party, not on us,” he stated, adding, “Let’s Make America Great Again!”
