Rumors of Trump’s Death Spread on Social Media
Unfounded rumors circulated on social media late Friday, claiming that President Donald Trump had died. By Saturday morning, phrases like “Trump is dead” or “Let it be true” were trending, and many users appeared to celebrate the misinformation.
One social media user posted, “If Trump dies, I’ll give $50 to anyone who likes this tweet,” accompanied by a photo of the President.
Another user shared GIFs depicting what looked like a cult ritual, captioned with “Trump is dead or on death threat.”
However, it turned out that Trump was, in fact, alive and well. Reports indicated he was playing golf and departing the White House on Saturday, heading towards Virginia. The rumors seemed to have ignited after he had not been seen in public for several days.
False claims about Trump’s death have previously been rampant online. Analysis showed that posts speculating about his condition had garnered over 1.3 million engagements by Saturday morning, making “#WhereIstrump” the sixth most popular topic on social media.
Video footage later emerged, showing the President out on the golf course, further dispelling the rumors.
As social media discussions heated up, Trump supporters reacted to the unfounded claims, with some expressing frustration. One supporter commented on scrolling through posts from the left, describing them as “Psycho” and “Death Cult” tweets. The tone suggested a mix of disbelief and annoyance about how the situation was being portrayed.
In the midst of this chaos, some questioned the motivations behind the rumors, expressing disdain for those celebrating what they falsely believed to be Trump’s demise.
Reflecting on his past challenges, including a significant event he described as an assassination attempt, Trump later stated, “These encounters with death have only strengthened my resolve to make America great again.”
