On ABC's “this week” Sunday, Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) argued that President Donald Trump was “destroying” the US economy.
Schiff said: “The president spoke for an hour and 40 minutes and had nothing to say about what he would do for the American family looking at that long address. He would sit at the kitchen table and hopes to provide something to help him buy a new home, pay rent, buy health care, or pay childcare. There was nothing for the Americans. That's where we need to focus. I had heard my story before your guests before me trying to explain that these tariffs are not about trade again, again, tariffs are not about trade. It's the war on drugs, but next month it's the war on drugs, but now it's the war on drugs. I don't understand it, and he said the numbers of jobs that came more than I expected are somehow good news. They're destroying the economy, making it more difficult for Americans to afford things.”
He added: I think they already are. In California, the biggest problem for people is that they need more housing. You need a more affordable housing. Now, starting with deporting construction workers, and then continuing to raise the costs of construction materials like wood, we're just driving more home prices beyond the measures of most Americans. So this destroys what they are doing deeply. ”
