Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “The Andrea Mitchell Report” that former President Donald Trump is “numb” toward Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“What’s at stake is our democracy,” Pelosi said. “Thank you so much for your interest in Ukraine. Whether it’s in the courtrooms in Manhattan or in Gaza and elsewhere, you can’t help but worry about what’s going on there.” All of that is very important. In my view, there is less focus on Ukraine in the press and in our country. Nothing is more at stake than our democracy.”
She added: “It’s a tragedy that it took this long. I’m very happy, I can’t say I’m happy, but it’s finally happened. The Ukrainians are remarkable. The surrounding countries are taking in refugees, providing humanitarian aid, etc. They were members of NATO. They know they could be threatened if Putin wins. Those who are not NATO members are scared. They have revealed to us that they are receiving propaganda from Russia in their own country as well.”
“I told Chuck Todd a few minutes ago that one of the things Donald Trump said on Friday was that we shouldn’t put money into Ukraine until Europe does something,” Mitchell said. I think so,” he said. As the bill was being considered in the House and Senate, Europe committed $54 billion. Europe achieved $54 billion. They do not have the weapons, air defense and ammunition that Zelensky and Ukraine need. ”
“This shows how irresponsible he is on this matter because he’s numb to President Putin for some reason,” Pelosi said. For him to say such a thing shows his lack of knowledge, his lack of values, and frankly his lack of commitment to democracy. ”
