The Trump administration has awarded a contract for the construction of a new border wall segment along the Texas-Mexico border. This is the first award of the second term of the President.
US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has awarded a border wall agreement to granite construction companies using funds allocated in the fiscal year 2021 budget.
More than $70 million has been awarded to granite construction companies to build a new border wall of about seven miles in Hidalgo County, Texas, within the U.S. Border Patrol's Rio Grande Valley (RGV) sector, according to the CBP. The agreement was awarded based on the CBP's fiscal year 2021 budget by utilizing funds previously allocated to the construction of the border wall.
The seven-mile boundary wall panel closes a key opening in the wall that was left incomplete due to cancelling the contract during the Biden administration. More than 4 years ago On Biden's first day in office, the Biden administration suspended all projects, including the construction of border walls by executive order. As reported by Breitbart Texas, a suspension of border wall construction costs around $6 million per day for taxpayers while the construction site is sitting Idol, according to a senior station at the Homeland Security Bureau.
According to DHS sources, the suspension that began in January 2021 lasted almost four months, costing taxpayers nearly $700 million. The construction suspension required contractors to remain in the workplace with all their equipment and materials until a final decision was reached. Employees in the construction of the border wall were only allowed to do the duties necessary to keep the workplace safe, but received the full amount during the delay period.
Texas eventually purchased some material for the border wall project, as a substantial amount of material purchased and paid by taxpayers remained corrupted at the Southwest Border Office and then sold in penny for dollars for scrap. In an exclusive report by Breitbart Texas, the video shot with the Eagle Pass showed just one of several state-funded border wall projects that Texas governor Greg Abbott did using surplus federal material.
Abbott spoke with Breitbart Texas at the time, and added, “The cross-border influx is out of control and the Biden administration will not step up and do its job. On the issue of increasing border crossings.”
Historically, the RGV sector has experienced high levels of illegal entry, a corridor known to be used daily by Mexican drug cartels to move drugs to the United States. Complete the boundary walls of these locations will support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) capabilities to disrupt and reject illegal border intersections and cartels' drug and human crowding activities, according to the CBP.
