Former President Donald Trump is gaining support among Hispanic voters, according to a new poll, which could determine the outcome of November's election.
Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris' standing in key voting blocs appears to be declining, reports said. New York Times/Siena College Poll.
Hispanic voters, even those not born in the United States, are unnerved by his tough message against illegal immigrants.
Polling shows that despite President Trump's immigration rhetoric trying to scare Hispanic voters away from him, 51% of Hispanic respondents born in other countries believe that Trump is an undocumented immigrant outside the country. They feel that when they talk about exile, they are not talking about themselves.
Among U.S.-born Hispanic respondents, the percentage who felt he didn't speak for Hispanics jumped to 67%.
The poll found that about 40% of Hispanic respondents born outside the U.S. believed President Trump's harsh immigration comments were directed at them, and 30% of Hispanic voters felt the same way. It is widely stated that
Harris leads Trump among critics by 19 percentage points (56% to 37%), a significant drop from the Democratic ranking in recent election cycles.
For example, in 2016, Democrats held an approximately 40-point lead over Hispanic voters in the presidential race (68% to 28%). The poll showed the party had a 26-point lead (62% to 36%) in 2020.
