Trump knocks NPR after editor accuses network of bias

Former President Trump criticized NPR after its editors publicly criticized the public broadcaster and accused it of bias.

“NPR has no more money, it’s a complete scam! The editor said they have no Republicans and are only being used to ‘damage’ former President Trump.” I have written this week on his Truth Social website. “They are liberal information machines. They don’t have a single dollar!!!”

Trump’s accusations followed comments from senior editor Uli Berliner, who has worked at NPR for more than 20 years. An editorial has been published He said his employer had lost its way and criticized its editorial strategy.

“The open-minded spirit no longer exists within NPR, and as expected, we now lack an audience that reflects America,” Berliner wrote.

The editor’s column sparked a strong backlash from NPR’s leadership, which said in a memo to employees this week, “The extraordinary work our desks and programs do to cover a wide range of difficult stories… I’m proud to support their work.”

Berliner wrote in his column that he disagrees with the suggestion that NPR should lose funding, as Trump and other Republican critics have suggested.

“Defunding as a rebuke from Congress won’t change NPR’s journalism,” he argued. “It has to come from within.”
