Trump Responds to Investigations of Brennan and Comey
President Donald Trump addressed reports on Wednesday regarding former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey, who are reportedly under criminal investigation for potential fraud linked to the Trump-Russia inquiry.
The initial report came from Fox News Digital, suggesting that there’s an ongoing assessment of whether Brennan allegedly made false statements to Congress.
During a meeting with African leaders at the White House, Fox News senior correspondent Peter Dorsey asked Trump about his thoughts on the investigation. “Do you want to see these two guys behind bars?” Dorsey inquired.
Trump responded, “Honestly, I don’t know much about it beyond what I’ve read. But I think they are very unjust individuals. It seems to me they are quite problematic,” he said. He continued, “I believe they’re really bad actors. So whatever happens, will happen.”
A Justice Department source mentioned that CIA Director John Ratcliffe had introduced evidence of fraud related to Brennan to the FBI. That evidence could lead to possible prosecution.
According to sources, the introduction was noted, and the investigation into Brennan is still ongoing. However, it’s unclear if it will expand beyond the claimed false statements before Congress.
Concerning Comey, a DOJ source indicated that there is an active investigation, but specific details were not disclosed.
While the full extent of the criminal probes into both Brennan and Comey remains uncertain, sources have mentioned that the FBI may characterize their interactions with the Department of Justice as a “conspiracy,” potentially opening various avenues for prosecution.
Both the FBI and CIA declined to comment on the matter.
Neither Brennan nor Comey immediately offered a response to requests for comments.
Interestingly, this investigation comes after Ratcliffe declassified a review concerning the formation of the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA), which claimed Russia attempted to influence the 2016 election in favor of Trump. However, the review identified issues during the ICA’s formation, suggesting it was rushed and involved numerous “procedural anomalies,” weakening the reliability of its findings.
The review also criticized the use of the Steele Dossier in the ICA, believing it contradicted significant decision-making principles.
