Trump launches GoFundMe for Helene victims

Former President Trump on Monday raised more than $1 million to help victims of Hurricane Helen.

A GoFundMe page was set up by the Trump campaign after the former president visited the hard-hit state of Georgia that left a mark on Helen.

“With so many people in the Southeast facing hardship in the aftermath of the storm, President Trump is in the community and seeing the aftermath firsthand,” the page reads. “All donations will go to help those most affected by Hurricane Helen. Any level of generosity will go a long way toward helping our fellow Americans who are suffering.”

Hedge fund billionaire William Ackman also pledged $100,000. Other donors include Kid Rock, Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), and personal injury attorney Dan Newlin.

President Trump visited Valdosta, Georgia, on Monday and criticized the federal government's response to the disaster.

“Our hearts are with you, and we will be with you as long as you need us,” he said, surrounded by a group of elected officials and Republicans.

President Biden criticized his predecessor for “lying” about contacts between Georgia officials and the federal government during the response.
