Trump lays out plan for combating inflation during ‘intellectual speech’ in North Carolina

Former President Donald Trump focused on the economy in what he called an “intellectual speech” on Wednesday, outlining his plans to combat inflation.

“A lot of people are very shocked by the state of inflation,” the Republican presidential candidate said during a speech in Asheville, N.C. “So we’re giving this as a speech of intellectuals, and you’re all intellectuals today.”

Trump, 78, announced two new initiatives he would implement as president to “rapidly” lower prices.

“On my first day back in the Oval Office, I will sign an executive order directing all Cabinet and agency heads to use every tool and authority available to defeat inflation and rapidly reduce consumer prices,” the 45th President said.

“This will be a whole-of-government effort to raise living standards and make life affordable again for Americans,” Trump added, saying he had instructed his Cabinet members to expect “results within the first 100 days, maybe much sooner.”

The former president also promised that if elected, he would work to cut energy prices by 50% within his first year in office.

“Today I am announcing that under my leadership, America will commit to the ambitious goal of cutting energy and electricity bills at least in half,” President Trump declared.

He said he hopes to achieve that goal “within 12 months, 18 months maximum.”
