Trump Makes Fun of Obama's Presidential Library Following Online Mockery

Trump Critiques Obama’s Presidential Library Plans

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump took aim at the delayed development of former President Barack Obama’s presidential library. Social media has been buzzing, with users humorously comparing the library’s design to various objects, including trash cans and even the Death Star.

During a press session at the White House, Reagan Reese from the Daily Caller asked Trump if he had seen the Obama Presidential Library. Trump’s response was rather blunt: “It wasn’t very clean.” He went on to say, “He needs help. It’s not very pretty. No, but it’s closed. It’s canceled. There’s no money left.”

According to Trump, Obama’s initiative has turned into a hybrid between a library and a museum. “He’s building a library-slash-museum… and usually they call it a library and a museum. That’s the official name. And they’re stuck. And he wanted only women in DEI”—referring to diversity, equity, and inclusion—”to build it. That’s what they got,” Trump added.

Following these remarks, social media users continued to ridicule the design of Obama’s library, especially after Republican Senator Ted Cruz compared it to the Death Star, joking that “Putting the Death Star in Chicago was a bold move.”

The library and museum project has faced challenges since it began construction in 2021, affecting 19 acres on Chicago’s South Side. It has encountered years of litigation and community resistance, particularly as housing costs have surged and many low-income families were displaced.

Financially, the Obama Foundation’s project has become increasingly costly. Initially projected at about $300 million, the expenses have skyrocketed to more than $850 million, up from an earlier estimate of $500 million revealed in 2017. By 2021, those costs had risen again to $700 million due to construction price hikes.

The Obama Foundation did not respond to requests for comments from the Daily Caller News Foundation regarding this matter.
