Pennsylvania teacher Mark Vogel called President Trump a “hero” on Tuesday since the president's administration secured release from Russian prisons.
“I want you to know that I'm not a hero of this, and President Trump is a hero,” Vogel said after meeting Trump at the White House.
“These men from diplomatic services are heroes,” continued Fogel. “The senators and representatives who passed the law in my honor — they brought me home — they are heroes.”
“I am adored what they all did.”
Trump, 78, greeted Fogel outside the White House on a snowy night in Washington, hours after the administration negotiated a contract to release Americans who were mistakenly detained.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), Sen. Dave McCormick (R-Pa.), and Rep. Brian Mast (R-Fla.) are lifted by the hands of Vogel, who line up behind the president. He was one of several senior officials who shook him.
Vogel has been in custody in Russia for the past three and a half years after being arrested for claiming it was legally prescribed marijuana.

“This is an incident that has been suffering under the Biden administration,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity about Vogel's detention. “They really didn't prioritize that.”
“It's a truly happy opportunity for all Americans, but certainly for Vogel's family,” Rubio added.
