Trump’s Potential Actions on Iran Amidst Protests
National security analysts indicate that President Trump might be gearing up to take action against Iran. They suggest that an upcoming briefing on U.S. options could be a form of strategic “deception,” especially as protests in Iran escalate. Rebecca Heinrichs, a senior research scientist at the Hudson Institute, shared her thoughts on “Fox & Friends,” asserting that Trump likely has plans already in mind and receives regular military updates about the situation in Iran.
Heinrichs speculated that the scheduled press conference could serve as a cover for potential operations in support of Iranian protesters before the briefing takes place.
Escalating Violence in Iran
The situation in Iran has become dire, with reports of over 500 protesters killed by the regime during widespread civil unrest. Trump is set to meet with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Army Secretary Pete Hegseth, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Dan Kaine, amid these reports.
This civil war erupted from economic distress and dissatisfaction with the theocratic leadership, leading to a dramatic decline in the national currency. Harsh measures from the government have included internet outages, mass arrests, and lethal force against demonstrators.
Options on the Table
Heinrichs enumerated several tactics available to Trump, such as cyberattacks, military strikes, and the possible use of Starlink satellite internet to facilitate communication for civilians in Iran. When asked if Iran’s actions had crossed Trump’s “red lines,” he acknowledged that they were approaching that threshold.
During a flight on Air Force One, Trump remarked, “We’re looking at it very seriously, the military is evaluating it, and we have some strong options.” The decision seems to be looming.
