Trump Mobile pushes back release of gold phone, citing government shutdown: report

A new cell phone company launched this year by the Trump Organization has announced a delay in releasing its gold-colored smartphone. The cause? The recent government shutdown, which has, according to sources, caused challenges in delivery timelines.

The Trump Organization, run by Donald Trump’s sons, Eric and Donald Jr., unveiled this wireless service back in June, promising to roll out “sleek gold smartphones” within the year.

However, the 43-day government shutdown last fall impacted the timeline for the T1 smartphone, as confirmed by a customer service representative speaking to the Financial Times.

The smartphone was initially set to launch in August with a retail price of $499. Earlier this year, the company’s website indicated that customers needed to make a $100 upfront payment to hold the device.

According to the Financial Times, Trump Mobile has now updated its release timeline to aim for the end of 2025.

In the interim, the company has begun selling pre-owned iPhones and Android devices at slightly reduced prices compared to big names like Apple and Samsung.

For example, Trump Mobile’s Samsung S24 is priced at $459, which is $30 less than the regular Samsung price, while their 2023 iPhone 15 costs $629, $70 cheaper than the newer iPhone 16.

The Trump administration had previously encouraged Apple and Samsung to manufacture their devices in the United States, even though many components are sourced from Asia.

Reports have stated that Trump Mobile intended to produce its phones in Alabama, California, and Florida.

As the company encounters significant logistical challenges, it appears to have shifted its marketing language, opting for slogans like “Proud American” rather than committing to “Made in the USA,” which may indicate a change in strategy.

The Federal Trade Commission mandates that to use the “Made in the USA” label, companies must build their products entirely in the United States.

On its website, Trump Mobile lists a monthly service plan priced at $47.45—named after Trump, reflecting his tenure as the 45th and 47th president. The plan offers unlimited talk, text, and data, along with roadside assistance and telehealth services.
