Trump mocks Biden over ‘Vice President Trump’ press conference gaffe

Former President Donald Trump blasted Commander in Chief Biden’s opening gaffe during a highly anticipated press conference on Thursday, in which he confused his 2024 presidential opponent with his vice president.

Biden, 81, made the stunning gaffe less than 10 minutes into the press conference while answering the first question of the evening about Vice President Kamala Harris’s election prospects against the 78-year-old former president.

“If I thought President Trump was unfit to be president, I would not have chosen her as my vice president,” Biden said at an event hosted by the White House to ease growing concerns that he was mentally unfit to serve in the presidency.

The former president posted on social media within minutes of Biden’s gaffe.

“Bad Boy Joe started his ‘Big Boy’ press conference with, ‘I wouldn’t have picked VP Trump as my running mate, but I don’t think she’s qualified to be president.’ Well done, Joe!” Trump wrote: On Truth Social, he misquoted the latter part of Biden’s response.

The press conference did not seem to largely assuage Democratic concerns about Biden’s ability to beat Trump in November. Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.)Shortly after the briefing, Trump announced he wanted to “step back from the presidential campaign.”

Himes is the 16th Democratic lawmaker to call on President Biden to end his reelection bid since his disastrous June 27 debate with President Trump.
