Army Secretary Dan Driscoll Resigns Amid Tensions
Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has submitted his resignation, creating a shift in the Pentagon leadership as reported tensions have surfaced recently. President Donald Trump has responded by appointing Adam Telle, the assistant secretary of the Army for Civil Works, to take over as acting secretary of the Army.
Trump announced the change on Truth Social, stating, “I am pleased to announce that Adam Telle, the current Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, will become Acting Secretary of the Army, effective immediately. He is a Great Patriot, who is respected by all.” Driscoll’s resignation was tendered earlier this week.
Telle, who was confirmed by the Senate in 2025, currently manages the Civil Works program of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. His role involves various responsibilities, including flood protection and oversight of commercial waterways. His previous experience includes serving as chief of staff to Senator Bill Hagerty and working closely with the Senate during Trump’s first term.
His appointment is crucial, as it fills a significant leadership role in the Army. Telle has established strong relationships on Capitol Hill, which might help in confirming army nominees that are currently facing delays.
Driscoll’s departure follows some reported clashes with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth regarding the Army’s transformation and readiness. Driscoll believed that Hegseth’s actions had obstructed these initiatives.
On his final day, Driscoll expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve under Trump and Hegseth, calling it “the honor of a lifetime.” He acknowledged the progress made in modernizing the Army, attributing that success to Hegseth’s support and Trump’s leadership.
