Trump names Chavez-DeRemer for Labor secretary

President-elect Trump has nominated Congresswoman Lori Chavez Delemer (R-Ore.) to be Secretary of Labor in the new administration.

Chavez Delemer received support from the Teamsters before he was formally elected by Trump. She served one term in the House but lost re-election to Democrat Janelle Bynum in November.

Trump's Labor nomination was one of his last Cabinet nominations. Mr. Trump's victory over Vice President Harris was fueled in part by working-class Americans who returned to support the Republican Party in 2024.

Teamsters Chairman Sean O'Brien spoke at the Republican National Convention in July, after big labor has historically supported Democrats. The Teamsters then announced in September that they were choosing not to endorse Trump or Harris, skipping their previous endorsement of the president.

Mr. Chavez Delemer will be appointed by Representative Elise Stefanik (New York) as Ambassador to the United Nations, Representative Mike Walz (Florida) as National Security Adviser, and Representative Matt Gaetz (National Security Adviser). He is one of the few Republicans nominated to Trump's cabinet, including the state of Florida. ) to the Attorney General.

However, Chavez-Deremer's nomination will not affect the Republican House majority in the next Congress, as he lost his bid for re-election.
