Trump names Dean John Sauer as US solicitor general

President-elect Trump has announced that he will nominate Dean John Sauer as a candidate for U.S. attorney general.

“John is a highly accomplished man with extensive experience working on the U.S. Supreme Court and other appellate courts, having clerked for Justice Antonin Scalia on the U.S. Supreme Court and served as Missouri Solicitor General for six years. A great appellate lawyer,” President Trump said in an announcement Tuesday night.

Sauer served as Missouri's attorney general from 2017 to 2023 and represented Trump in his successful appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court in Trump v. United States.

“Most recently, John served as the lead attorney representing me in Trump v. United States Supreme Court, where we won a historic victory regarding presidential immunity, which defeated Lawfare’s unconstitutional campaign against me and the entire MAGA movement.” That was key,” Trump said. Said.

Sauer was a Rhodes Scholar and a graduate of Duke University, Oxford University, and graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School.

“John will be a great champion for us in Making America Great Again!” Trump said.
