Trump names Vance aide as legislative affairs director

President-elect Trump on Monday announced three appointments to lead various White House offices, including the top liaison to Capitol Hill.

President Trump said in a news release that James Braid will serve as director of legislative affairs. Blade is a Senate aide to Vice President-elect J.D. Vance and served as his chief policy staff for two years while he was a senator. He previously worked at the Office of Management and Budget during President Trump's first term.

Blade is likely to be a key figure in promoting President Trump's policies on Capitol Hill, where Republicans are expected to hold slim majorities in both chambers. This would allow Republicans to move quickly to pass tax reform and possibly immigration legislation through the budget reconciliation process, requiring only a simple majority in each chamber.

President Trump also announced that Matthew Brasseau will be the head of the White House's Office of Political Affairs, which is responsible for reaching key constituencies. Mr. Brasseau most recently served as deputy political director for Trump's 2024 campaign.

President Trump also said Alex Latcham will lead the Office of Public Liaison, which works with state and local leaders to advance the White House's agenda. Latcham has been close to Trump as a political advisor for the past eight years and is also chief executive of the campaign's efforts in early primary states during the 2024 campaign.

The series of appointments comes as President Trump continues to fill top-level White House positions, announcing nearly every Cabinet nominee.
